Schiermonnikoog is part of the Schiermonnikoog National Park and as such is a protected nature reserve. In addition, the island has been designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO. The open spaces and quiet are unique.
The island is ‘low traffic’, which means that guests have to leave their cars on the mainland when visiting the island. After a ferry crossing that lasts approximately 45 minutes, coaches or cabs will take you to your destination. The island is not very large, meaning you can explore every part of it easily on foot or by bike. Schiermonnikoog boasts an extensive network of biking and hiking paths.
